Overview of the role

You will work closely with the Technical Team to oversee all aspects of Technical & Production operations including Wax/Shell/Foundry, and to learn to manage all aspects of technical engineering relating to the casting manufacturing and champion new product implementation.  You’ll learn to control the tooling and the processes for new / modified tooling as efficiently as possible ensure timely implementation of new tooling relating to the NPI process by effective project management, intervening when necessary to ensure the correct decisions are made in timely manner.

In a fast paced technical demanding manufacturing environment clear communication is integral part of the manufacturing process.  You must be competent and comprehend complex operations and customer specifications.  You should also be able to optimise day-to-day activities while minimising the costs. The goal is to ensure that production processes deliver technical exacting products of maximum quality and technical compliance in a profitable manner.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Technical Adviser & Support to all departments on all processes in the business  
  • Wax Shell & Foundry Technical Management    
  • Tooling design & Procurement
  • Project Management 
  • NPI process management, tooling, samples and delivery  
  • Technical development of new products
  • RCCA reports, scrap & rework reporting weekly and monthly
  • Trend analysis and Technical Support

Summary of main duties

  • Lead, manage and drive continuous improvement in connection with product, process and people. Thus ensuring that we can produce castings in the most efficient and most economical way whilst minimising scrap and rework cycles. 
  • Ensure products are produced in line with customer specification, performing checks where necessary
  • Ensure good communication is given either verbally or written to all members of the production team. 
  • Problem solving – to identify root causes and take effective action to resolve the problems in hand – Solution focused with a urgency.
  • To work closely with Managers, Supervisors & Team Leaders to ensure that production complies technically. 
  • Liaise with Commercial, Sales, Quality and production staff regarding Technics, dimensional specifications and quality is aligned to the customer drawing & specification. 
  • Ensure compliance with the Company’s policies including Health & Safety. 
  • Observe and comply with all good working practices within the factory.
  • Ensuring all parts have correcting Routing (PFEP) and IPC is relevant and up to date 
  • Oversee and coach employees.
  • Check production output according to specifications.
  • Submit Monthly reports and as requested on performance and progress.
  • Identify issues in efficiency and suggest improvements.
  • Carry out investigations of non-conforming products.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Educated to a minimum HND level in Engineering/Metallurgy or a related discipline 
  • Excellent communication and people skills. 
  • Exceptional planning and organisational skills.
  • Ability to manage a number of tasks concurrently and meet deadlines
  • Be hard working and conscientious with the ability to motivate & support and have a desire to contribute to the Senior Manager team.
  • The ability to work calmly under pressure. 
  • Show good initiative and enthusiasm and lead by example.
  • Control and channel emotion. 
  • Ability to work on own initiative and be self-motivated to arrange daily diary and work as part of a team. 
  • Ability to read technical drawings and specifications. 
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Good ICT skills. 
  • Hold a valid driving licence.
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of investment casting or a similar technical role would be advantageous.
